Crime – death and shootings

Crime - death and shootings

Show me the real numbers, promote to me what is really going on, then let me be sad for those who really suffer.

“The poorest 40 percent of the world’s population accounts for 5 percent of global income. The richest 20 percent accounts for three-quarters of world income.” Source 3.

According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly” in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.

Number of children in the world 2.2 billion.

Number in poverty 1 billion (every second child).

That is 916 children, just children, not adults, per hour.

And yet …………..

Just here in this little corner of the world, right before my eyes.

“The Australian Government says total Defence funding, including operations, will rise from $32.4bn in the 2016-17 financial year to $58.7bn in 2025-26. The government says the cumulative increase in funding, compared with previous spending plans, amounts to $29.9bn over the course of the decade.”

That is $9,101,123.00 rising to $16,488,764.00 per day in 2025, per day!

Sad always when people get hurt through violence locally or overseas for sure. For sure we could all do better.

But the real crimes against ourselves as a species, really? I’ll let you make up your mind.

916 kids die each day, because it isn’t “profitable” (whatever that means) to do something about it. That is 38 kids per hour, each and every hour, 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 52 weeks of the year.

Intelligent species we sometimes get called.

Not sure that is a label we warrant.
